ManREACH Summit Promotes Cooperation

On June 10, 2008, twelve individuals representing the many different organizations that receive Colorado ManREACH funding from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) met in Frisco, Colorado, to discuss working together more closely to help ManREACH achieve its mission of creating heart centered connections and community for gay/bi/queer men who live in the rural and mountain areas of Colorado. It was the first meeting of its kind.

Representatives from Western Colorado AIDS Project (West-CAP), Northern Colorado AIDS Project (N-CAP), Boulder County AIDS Project (B-CAP), Southern Colorado AIDS Project (S-CAP), and the Pikes Peak Gay and Lesbian Community Center (PPGLCC) were in attendance. Each agreed that Colorado ManREACH could benefit greatly from their combined efforts to strengthen existing programs and eliminate duplications of effort.

Additional discussions produced a commitment from group members to submit joint grant applications in 2009 in order to, among other things, strengthen "underserved" G/B/Q communities in southern Colorado and create a bi-annual Colorado HIV prevention summit. Representatives from the various organizations will meet again in July to continue their discussion.
